(THR) – USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has released its comprehensive report on the diversity of movies in front of and behind the camera. AI2 analyzed the 100 highest-grossing movies at the box office each year since 2007. Researchers discovered Asians represented 15.9% of characters in 2022’s top movies.
However, researchers found there was very little change in the number of nonwhite characters on screen. AI2 founder Stacy L. Gunn responded, “I was never making a “young Superman” movie, just a Superman movie!” The reason fans assumed this was because he wrote on X/Twitter in December, Gunn said, “In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
