DreamWorks is the type of studio that is never consistent. You’ll see them dropping the biggest banger ever and then dropping the most pointless and stupid film you could get. But I can tell you that Forgotten Island is one of those bangers! And it really is one of their biggest bangers ever! You might remember The Wild Robot, which was a perfect, beautiful film with a touching message, and now we’re getting the same treatment but for a totally different film with a total different style but extremely unique in every way.

As you can tell, this is a film about friendship. But let me tell you something you probably didn’t know: the trailers and all the marketing material for this movie mostly lead you to a totally different film than what it actually is! But that’s a great thing about it, because you come to the theater expecting it to be something, and then you’ll be surprised by what this film ends up being. Forgotten Island has a very similar plot to The Hangover, but mixed with Coco and for kids, obviously. I don’t know how to explain this, but everything will make sense once you see the movie.
As I said, it’s a film about friendship and the risk of losing everything that matters to them. There are a lot of conflicts throughout the story that make you wonder if everything will be okay in the end. There are several new characters that aren’t shown in the trailers that you’ll LOVE when you see them in the movie. This film is surprising, emotional (you’ll cry), extremely action-packed, and totally unexpected. It pretty much defines what you expect to feel when you go to the theater to watch a big-scale animated movie. A perfect story, with perfect characters and high stakes throughout.
I have to talk about the animation in this film and how gorgeous it is. It’s likely one of the most visually stunning animated films of all time. It takes a lot of inspiration from anime while also drawing from classic DreamWorks films. The animation works perfectly, especially during the action sequences—you’ll be blown away by how well done they are. The score is another major feature of this film. It blends perfectly with the story being told and elevates the emotional scenes throughout the movie.
Forgotten Island is one of DreamWorks’ best films ever. Emotional, hilarious, action-packed, visually stunning, and full of surprises. Everything you want in a film with this scale. It’s the type of movie to gather the whole family and go to the theater!
