I don’t know what to say honestly, this series literally made me speechless right now, because, honestly, this was my least anticipating Star Wars projects in the upcoming years, why? I’m not that person who likes prequels usually, I know there are many good ones but I just can’t get excited for those, we already know the characters fate after all… we already know how he ends, we see him in Rogue One, but here it’s different, because is not only about Andor, there are many characters in this show that I actually cared about!
Starting the year with Obi-Wan Kenobi was a traumatic disappointment, a show with so much potential was, at least for me, terrible, I couldn’t even finish it after Episode 4, so obviously I was afraid that Andor could be the same thing, or even worse because it feels so unnecessary, but I assume how totally wrong I was about this show, Andor is one of the biggest surprises of the year that, with only 4 Episodes watched from me, made me very engaged.
The series starts very dark and with a big conflict that sets all the main plot of the series, Andor has killed two official officers from the Empire, and they won’t rest until get that man. The first Episode is not my favorite but is good to introduce us for this world better, I am not a huge Star Wars fan and I must confess, but this show felt different, you don’t need to be a fan to watch it, they don’t start to pronounce those weird words from the universe that non-fan audience won’t understand, they really made a show for all audiences, it’s a normal action thriller that will probably make you excited!
Episode 2 is probably my least favorite, it’s not bad at all, but it’s just a small complement to the first Episode, it’s good that they’re releasing three Episodes together, this is a pretty good move by Disney, and, as Diego Luna himself said, Andor feels like a 12-hour movie, and it actually does, and that’s a good thing about it, you won’t never feel bored about the show or that is taking too long.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting for Cassian Andor’s past to be so interesting, we see more about his childhood and where he came from. Episode 3 is BY FAR the best one, it’s amazing in many ways and it’s totally a banger, it’s the Episode with most action in it (between the first 4), all the chase scenes with Andor trying to escape and all that tension is so good to watch. Episode 4 is the beginning of the big plan, showing us that the big stuff is still coming, and that made me excited.
The plot is epic, it is wonderful all this political discussion represented in the series, and this is something very important to present, and they do it in a very good way, if you’re expecting something like Obi-Wan’s series with Jedis and lightsabers than you’re wrong, this is so much better than that.
Ok, something that made me so hooked with the series are the characters, they are so good, literally all of them, highlighting Diego Luna that did an amazing work as Andor, Stellan Skarsgård, and I can’t forget to mention Kyle Soller that did an incredible, he gives me so very mean villain incoming vibes, and that’s a very good feeling in the show. The soundtrack is quite exceptional, about the storytelling: there’s nothing to complain about.
CGI is not as bad as She-Hulk: Attorney At Law but it’s also not incredible, it’s fine, some creatures looked weird but all the spaceships movements were fine at my point of view, they didn’t bothered me once.
Andor is one of the biggest surprises of the year, focusing more in story than action, Diego Luna brings an incredible performance as the main character with a plot full of thrilling and tension moments.
