When we last left off with Percy Jackson, he discovered that not only was Poseidon his father and that he had control over water but also that his mother wasn’t dead and instead was trapped in the Underworld with Hades. Percy Jackson has also been tasked with going on a journey to retrieve Zeus’s missing lightning bolt which is believed to also be with Hades.
This episode starts off with Percy going to the Oracle to receive his prophecies which he receives four of. These four prophecies are detrimental to the story and how Percy reacts with certain characters. One of the prophecies that he’s told is that ‘You shall be betrayed by one who calls you friend.’ Percy has to take two people along with him on this journey and decides to bring along Annabeth and Grover. Throughout their journey in this episode, we can see Percy act awkward around them, showing that he’s having trust issues. This ends up causing many arguments between the three that take place during the episode.

Some major information gets revealed during an argument with Percy and Annabeth which takes place after the attack on the bus. In this scene, Percy tries to get Grover on his side but its revealed by Annabeth that Grover was her protector before his. This information being hidden from Percy furthers his trust issues as he questions why this wasn’t information that he was told. I love these scenes the most as it showcases the range that Walker Scobell, Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri have within their acting skills and how well they can bounce off each other.
In this episode, we reach an important moment in the story where we meet another Greek monster/legend, depending on how you look at her story. We finally meet Medusa who is being portrayed by Jessica Parker Kennedy. During this scene, we get to learn about the history that she shares with Annabeth’s mother, Athena and Percy Jackson’s father, Poseidon. This portrayal of Medusa is much better than that of the film as it truly delves into her mind state and her tragic story. Medusa attempts to manipulate Percy Jackson by giving him an offer, using his mother against him and trying to make him believe that Annabeth will betray him eventually. With the prophecy already giving word that he will be betrayed by a friend, this only adds more to the already burning flame.

What’s great about the ending of this episode is that Percy Jackson manages to open up about the prophecy, the offer he received and the trust issues he’s been having. This also allows for Annabeth and Grover to also open up which gives them the opportunity to grow as a group. This is not something common you see within media and it’s nice to see that though they are kids, there are able to grow and develop and act like adults.
Percy Jackson And The Olympians Episode 3 is another great addition to the series and further proves why Percy Jackson works better as a show compared to a film. It allows for better growth and development between all the characters and shows us a different angle that you might’ve not gotten from the novels and for sure wouldn’t have gotten from the films. As our main trio grow as characters, their performances also get better and further solidify the casting decisions.
