‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Review: All You Could Wish For And More

It’s kind of insane to think that nearly one year ago we thought we’d never gonna see this movie, like really never. After so much chaos, Coyote Vs. Acme finally has been released. And I will be straight up, it is clever, beautiful, chaotic, enjoyable and one of the most fun experiences you will have at a movie theater this year. By the time this movie ended all I could think about was: “what was that studio thinking when deciding to delete this film from existence?”

“After all of the products made by ACME Corporation backfire on Wile E. Coyote, in his pursuit of the Road Runner, he hires an equally-unlucky human attorney to sue the company. When Wile E.’s lawyer finds out that his former law firm’s intimidating boss is ACME’s CEO, he teams up with Wile E. to win the court case against him.”

This film’s concept is one of the smartest ones I’ve seen in a while! We have a loony character like Coyote suing a company full of secrets that apparently is making cartoons suffer for the good of the business. Everything about this film is genius. It’s really hard to talk about the plot points without giving away spoilers, but let’s just say I really did appreciate Coyote and Road Runner’s arc in this, and how it all wraps up. I also genuinely loved the mystery surrounding the film’s plot, and the jokes are surprisingly funny, with some very clever ones.

But as you already know, it’s still a kids movie, and it can be quite generic sometimes for its own good. We have some very corny scenes here that you see in poor-quality family films, which honestly didn’t land well for me personally. And besides it all, it’s a very simple film, and I do appreciate that! I think Coyote Vs. Acme works because it stays true to the nature of all these classic characters, and their interaction with the human world is made so perfectly that it makes you want to watch it again and again. This will definitely be a comfort movie for many people.

Something I noticed and really did appreciate while I was watching this film was its color grading. It looked really good with the cinematography and VFX provided. The characters fit so well in the human world, in a way that other hybrid/animation films weren’t able to capture, and that’s a big quality for me. One thing about these kinds of movies is how sometimes they look off or weird when interacting with humans, but that definitely is not the case here. The emotional bits of the film also really worked so well. It’s crazy to think that months ago we at The Hollywood Handle were campaigning for this film to be released, and we’re now here ready to see it succeed!

Finally, it’s here! Coyote Vs. Acme works in every way possible. It’s clever, funny, chaotic and it stays really true to the nature of these iconic characters. One of the most fun theater experiences you will have this year!
