THH: Invincible Season 2 has finally arrived but we only got to see half of it, was this always meant to be a 2 part thing or was the decision made afterwards?
SIMON: The decision was made afterwards. As we started producing the show, some issues came up, talked to Amazon, so we thought this was the best way to present the show, now, with these 4 episodes instead of making audience wait even longer. We will come back after a few months and give you the rest.
THH: So in this new season we got this new villain, Angstrom Levy, but I felt like he wasn’t really the major focus of this first half of the season. Will he eventually become a bigger threat to Mark and how was to work with this character?
SIMON: Well, I don’t wanna spoil a little too much but you could just think about it and be liked: “We wouldn’t spend a entire episode introducing a character that you’ll never see again”. So… maybe Angstrom comes back, maybe he doesn’t. Working with the character, you know, Sterling K. Brown the voice of Angstrom, he was incredible. We talked about the character a lot. One of the things I can’t wait for audience to see is his portrayal of Angstrom in the show.

THH: Omni man has been acting different and trying to be a “good guy” now. How was working on his relationship with Mark and what can we expect for the future?
SIMON: I mean it was very exciting, he’s definitely not a good guy yet. We try to treat it realistically, like, what would it feel like to you if you found out your father was a mass murderer, you know, what would that mean? What of position would that put you in, if you were Mark? So we just tried to treat it realistically.
THH: This season definitely focused a lot on each characters mental health and how they’re dealing with the events of the first season, are we seeing more of this emotional side of the show?
SIMON: Yes! I mean, I think the promise of Invincible is that we never let you forget about the things that happened, like the episode previous or the season previous. And obviously season 1 ended in a big way, you know, lots of people died, terrible things were said, families were torn apart. That doesn’t go away, season 2 starts a month after season 1 so all that is fresh in their minds I mean this would take people decades to overcome and, you know, forget about what happened. So we wanted to make sure that it feels real.

THH: Season 1 finale was really intense and shocking, do you think this season’s finale will be such as impactful?
SIMON: I hope so, I hope it will be as emotional and as intense as season 1, you know, we try to build always a little bit more when we’re getting to the end of a season. I hope it feels just as big, just as interesting, just as emotional as season 1’s. That’s our goal.
All 4 episodes of Invincible Season 2 – Part 1 are now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video
