Spider-Man 2 came out June 30th 2004 (18 years ago today) and is one of the most praised comic book movies ever! Today we are going to revisit Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
Peter Parker ( Tobey Maguire) is struggling after the events of Spider-Man 1 with his best friend Harry Osborn ( James Franco) Angry and frustrated at Spider-Man as he thinks that Spider-Man killed his Father (Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.) Peter Parker struggles in this film as he loses jobs, always late to his class, and struggles to keep his girlfriend Mary Jane Watson ( Kirsten Dunst.) Peter and Harry go to this Demonstration and this is where we find Doctor Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) and his fusion reactor goes wrong and he loses his wife. Harry Osborn has the tritium that Octavius wants and Harry makes a deal so he tells Octavius he wants Spider-Man gone and Octavius agrees. Octavius finds Peter with Mary Jane and takes her and tells Peter to find Spider-Man. Octavius and Spider-Man fight on top of a train and Octavius derails the train so then Spider-Man has to save the train from falling down and he successfully does, but he is too worn out that he passes out and Octavius takes him to Harry. Harry finally has the chance to erase Spider-Man but before he wants to see who Spider-Man is and its revealed to him that its his Best Friend. Harry is in shock but Peter tells him to calm down and asks him where Mary Jane is and Harry tells Peter that she is at the fusion reactor with Octavius. When Spider-Man gets there it is revealed that Peter is Spider-Man to Mary Jane and Octavius. So Octavius scarifies himself with the fusion reactor to save the city.
Now its time to revisit the history of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Even if you have debates of which Spider-Man is the best or favorite, Tobey Maguire as his Spider-Man adaptation will always have a special place in Comic Book Fans hearts. As we also look through the history of Spider-Man Villains, people often bring up Doctor Otto Octavius ( Alfred Molina) and for good reason as he is one of the most iconic Villains still to this day. Even though Spider-Man 2 came out in 2004 it still holds up as one of the best Spider-Man Movies. Before the highly praised “Raimi Trilogy” Sam Raimi was off doing Horror Movies but Sam Raimi nailed it with the Comic Book Genre and even added a little bit of horror into the mix. Another thing about the “Raimi Trilogy” is that it really made a impact on Comic Book Movies as a whole, especially the first two films. I think this movie perfectly tells that not every hero is perfect and it shows in this film and its why a lot of people love this film is because Peter Parker goes through relatable things in this film that normal people deal with. A lot of people grew up watching these films and to say that it came out 18 years ago is crazy. As Spider-Man 2 is officially 18 years old today do you guys think that it still holds up and is it in your top Comic Book Films of all time?
