‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Review: Leveling Up Almost Every Aspect

After a very successful theatrical journey, 28 Years Later has finally got its sequel and only 7 months later! People love when we don’t have to wait years and years for the part 2 of a film especially after such big cliffhanger. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is our first film review for 2026 and is the first release of the year that I have watched and damn what a start!

The film continues to follow Spike as he joins a cult led by the charismatic but sinister Sir Jimmy Crystal, while the weary Dr. Kelson uncovers a shocking truth that could change humanity’s fate, forcing everyone to confront whether the infected or the survivors are the true monsters in a post-apocalyptic Britain.

So… this film is quite similar but, at the same time, different from the first chapter of this trilogy. Spike is no longer the “main” character; we have a lot more going on now. The characters leading this film are Jack O’Connell’s Jimmy and Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Kelson. From the mystery of the future of the virus to insane kills and pure madness, this film solidifies itself as a better film than its previous installment. Everything you see in the first film is leveled up here in every single way.

Ralph Fiennes delivers such an incredible performance; he gives more soul to his character. He is creepy for most of the time but, at the same time, unexpectedly hilarious. Jack O’Connell is the real MVP; he delivers the best performance of the entire movie. His character is annoying, sarcastic, and funny, and will make you hate him from the start of the film. The big surprise of the film is probably Chi Lewis-Parry’s performance as Samson. I don’t want to spoil too much, but stay tuned to his performance in this film—it is truly amusing.

There’s so much to enjoy in this sequel. From Nia DaCosta’s incredible direction to the film’s amazing score and cinematography, we witness one of the best horror films of recent years. And even if you, as a horror fan, had some complaints about the first film, don’t worry. This sequel is extremely gorier than the first film, it’s way funnier, and has deeper and more profound subplots.

There’s no doubt that Nia DaCosta is an incredible director, especially in the horror genre. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is visually stunning, extremely gory compared to the previous film, and features jaw-dropping performances by both Jack O’Connell and Ralph Fiennes. Truly a win for horror cinema.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple releases in theaters on January 16.
