Dev Patel has been an actor (and now director) that always managed to surprise his audience by the quality of his work and the love that he puts into his job. He loves what he does and you can see that on the screen, this is what makes movies worth it, this is why we watch movies. Monkey Man is no different, an epic, bloody, masterful, and jaw dropping action movie that proves that Dev Patel deserves that director chair.
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.

When the movie starts, there’s a lot going on and at the beginning I was afraid that the movie could get confusing and end up being a total mess but no! The storytelling was excellent, telling us a story about loss and how the main character was dealing with it. It’s insane to see the love, energy and passion that was brought into this film. Dev Patel is a phenomenal filmmaker and I can totally see this man having an outstanding future ahead.
The action scenes are out of this world, the way they were filmed, the camera movements, the cinematography, everything is just so perfectly executed. The technical parts of this movie are out of this world and I love to see how every person that worked in this movie, did an excellent job in their respective role. The score is right on point and packed with a killing soundtrack that just made each action scene even more exciting and memorable.

From a near perfect action movie, it’s still a simple feature, the plot is nothing out of this world. However, the script executes this story in an incredible way showing that even the simplest story can make the most compelling and amazing movie. This one is definitely a treat for the action film fans and get ready for it because it’s a crazy ride.
Dev Patel does an incredible job directing Monkey Man. It’s intense, filled with breathtaking action sequences and exceptional cinematography. This movie has everything you’d want in an action film. A remarkable cinematic achievement.
