What Jf…? release 2 years ago bringing a whole new thing for the MCU, it’s the first animated show the studio ever had and we were eagerly excited to see how this would end up and guess what! Most of the people actually liked it a lot and here we are back for a second season. I must confess I’m not a massive fan of the first season but I gotta say that this new one provides lots of improvements.
The series explores alternate timelines in the multiverse that show what would happen if major moments from the MCU films occurred differently.

The episodes in this season of the show were a mix of hits and misses. It’s really tough to make everything 100% perfect, but I have to say, this season really stepped it up with better episodes and higher quality, especially when it comes to the visuals. The first episode was a great start, with a dark and intriguing story that you wouldn’t expect in this universe. I love how this series isn’t afraid to take risks and do something crazy or unexpected. It keeps things fresh and keeps us hooked.
One thing that I want to emphasize is the action scenes. All the fight scenes in this season were visually stunning, with some anime influences that added an extra flair. I love how they cleverly tied this season to the Christmas theme, as it was full of festive magic. Episode 3 was especially memorable, as it had some nods to Die Hard and Age of Ultron. It was truly one of my favorite episodes.
This season also achieved something that was long overdue: giving underused characters a chance to shine. Characters who had great potential but fell short in their movies really delivered here. Justin Hammer is the standout for me. I hadn’t seen him in a long time, but he was even more impressive here than in Iron Man 2. The introduction of a new character, Kahhori, was also a brilliant move by the show. It was truly a huge success.

What If…? Season 2 was a truly great feat that explored alternate versions of the Avengers and villainous versions of heroes. However, it was not without its flaws. Like season 1, I felt that this season also struggled with the pacing at times, resulting in some dull stories with poor character development. I won’t spoil anything for you, but some episodes really failed to impress me. On the other hand, I must admit that some episodes thrilled me immensely. I loved seeing different versions of the Avengers, especially in Episode 2 where we met an older team with Hank Pym, King T’Chaka and others. Episode 8 also offered a fresh perspective on the MCU with a superbly written action-packed story with some amazing moments.
What If…? Season 2 exceeded my expectations. It was more ambitious and impressive than the first season. It dared to tell more original and diverse stories. The animation improved, the action scenes were stunning and I appreciated how this show redeemed characters who were underutilized before. It was a fitting finale for the year.
