Since 2021, Disney has been releasing a Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie every single year and I must confess that since the first one, I’ve been not enjoying these movies at all because they all just feel rushed and uninspired and uninteresting. The first one was not good at all and Rodrick Rules was even worse but I gotta say that Cabin Fever was my favorite one out of the three, it was really the only one that brings a very deep message that is really important during this Christmas season.
The winter holidays are turning out to be especially stressful for Greg Heffley this year. After accidentally damaging a snowplow while making a snowman with best friend Rowley Jefferson, Greg worries he won’t get the new video game console he so desperately wants for Christmas. To make matters worse, he gets snowed in with his family, including his grumpy older brother Rodrick and annoying younger brother Manny.
As I mentioned, this franchise was, for me, uninspired and uninteresting since the beginning, but don’t get me wrong, I’m talking about these animated versions. I LOVE the live-action movies, from the first one to the third, they’re all incredibly great and remarkable for me. Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever actually surprised me in a very positive way even with its extremely simple premise, this was the first movie, out of the 3, that was never adapted already into a movie before. Cabin Fever was perfectly adapted here, we see a story about facing your fears and trying to deal with them, and about confronting the consequences of your mistakes.
I think this is a movie that will be a success with the kids, it’s a short movie with a simple story that will bring kids some great laughs. This movie had a short runtime of only one hour, but out of the three we had, this was the only one that didn’t felt rushed and they actually managed to fit the story in this short runtime and develop the character really well.
Greg Heffley was so annoying in the first two animated movies, I just wasn’t really a fan of those movie but this one actually had my attention. I gotta be honest on how cute this was. The Christmas message is really deep and Greg’s character development will be inspiring for many children who are watching this and never read the book before. And can’t forget to mention the laughs and funny moments this movie brings. Seeing all the Heffley family stuck in their house during a whole week was something fun and entertaining to watch. This is easily the best movie out of this trilogy. But still far away from the live-action ones.
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever is a simple yet cute and inspiring movie that will easily win kids and teach them the true meaning of Christmas. It has its mistakes such as weak pacing at some points or unfunny jokes but overall this is a worthy and enjoyable holiday watch.
