William Friedkin, Director of The Exorcist Dies 87

(THR) – Oscar winner and acclaimed director William Friedkin, known for The Exorcist and The French Connection, has died at 87 years old. His wife Sherry Lansing announced on Monday that Friedkin died of heart failure and pneumonia at his Bel Air home. Guillermo del Toro made a Twitter thread dedicated to working with Friedkin. He was among the many people who remember him “as precise, eloquent and so full of energy that it was almost daunting to see.”
Jason Momoa Shares Where To Donate To Help Maui
(Variety) – Jason Momoa is spreading awareness on how to help the people impacted by the Maui wildfires. According to NBC news officials have confirmed 55 deaths. Hawaii Governor Josh Green says the fires will likely be the largest disaster in the state’s history. On Instagram Momoa said, “I can’t believe this happened and I’m praying that everyone that’s unaccounted for gets reunited with their ʻohana.” His posts highlight the destruction the fire caused to Lahaina. Momoa also provided organizations where people can donate that include: ActBlue Emergency Fundraiser for Maui Fire, and the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. Momoa concluded one of his posts saying, “As we honor the memories of Lāhaina’s past, let us rebuild and restore this historic town. Maui no ka ‘oi.”
27 Latino Organizations Unite To Support Blue Beetle

(Variety) – 27 Latino Hollywood Organizations are coming together to raise support for DC’s Blue Beetle. In a letter they wrote, “For the sake of current and future generations of Latinos, we will not delay our progress any longer. We invite you to join us in our effort to amplify the work that countless Latino artists have worked so hard to create. It’s important that we show up for them at a time when they are not able to promote their projects.” The organizations say they will continue to support the actors and the writers as they fight “for a more equitable and inclusive industry.”
Pixar’s Elemental Made A Box Office Rebound

(Variety) – Pixar’s Elemental is making an incredible rebound at the box office after having the worst opening weekend in the company’s 28-year history. The animated film debuted with $29.5 million domestically and $44.5 million globally. In an interview with Variety Pixar’s president Jim Morris said “We had a higher hope for its opening weekend, so we were a bit crestfallen.” Two months later, the film grossed $148 million in North America and $425 million worldwide. Morris says, “This will certainly be a profitable film for the Disney company.”
Rust Manslaughter Trial Set for December 6
(Variety) – A New Mexico judge has set the date for the ‘Rust’ shooting trial that resulted in the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. Reed is also charged with handing off a bag of cocaine to someone else after being questioned about the shooting. The trial is scheduled for December 6th and if Reed is convicted she faces up to three years in prison.
