It’s been 15 years since the first movie, do we really need a sequel to a Disney classic that I particularly love? No, and this movie proves that we didn’t need a sequel, it was good as it was, but then they decided to make a sequel and for what?
Disenchanted tells the story of Giselle (Amy Adams), who after the events of the first film, was living her “Happy Ever After”, until she began to realize that life in the real world is not like a fairy tale life, it is another reality, it is not magical and charming as she thinks it would be… until one day her friends Edward (James Marsden) and Nancy (Idina Menzel) decide to give her a wand of desires… and then Giselle, after having conflicts with her stepdaughter, decides to wish her life to be the same as fairy tales.

I will say that the movie was very tiring until she made the wish, before that the movie was much weaker and totally soulless, in fact the movie itself is very soulless. From the moment Giselle makes her wish, things get a little more interesting, it’s nice to see the real life city looking like Andalasia that Gisele used to live, we see giants, dragons and that’s even fun to watch, but the problem is: from the moment Gisele makes the wish, all the characters we know totally change their personality, sometimes it doesn’t even seem to be a sequel to Enchanted.

Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) and Gisele were having their mother-daughter conflicts, and this is cool to see in the movie, Robert (Patrick Dempsey) became basically another character the whole movie, the Robert you see here does not seem to be the same as the first movie, of course Gisele’s desire influenced this but it still annoys…
Nancy is a great character and together with Edward they make a very nice and fun couple to watch. Now let’s talk about the villain… Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph)… I have to confess that I’m not a big fan of Maya’s work and here it was no different, acting sometimes forced, of course the script does not help with a bad development of the villain, but even so this villain is not even close as good as the evil queen of the first movie.

The scenarios are beautiful, as well as the CGI that is exceptional and this surprises me, but the soundtrack is a little disappointing, not that it is horrible, but it is full of forgettable and dull songs just to fill the plot and try to show fidelity to its predecessor, sometimes it works, but mostly not.
Disenchanted is a movie that doesn’t prove why it exists. A soulless sequel, with a generic script, solid performances and a soundtrack that is mostly forgettable.
