As someone who loves the Marvel Universe, I must confess I haven’t watched the most recent shows from the studio, that includes Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart and some others. The last Marvel Television show I watched was Agatha All Along (and I liked it pretty much). The reason why I haven’t seen one in so long? I guess any called my attention and just didn’t watch it for no specific reason. But something about Wonder Man had me very interested, the Hollywood satire in it, the cast, the story, I really wanted to know where this show would take me and boy I had so much fun with it!
The show’s premise follows “Hollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man.”

I saw some people complaining about this show getting a full one day release instead of weekly release and I’ll tell you to don’t worry because I think this was the correct way to release this show. Wonder Man is not the type of series where each episode ends in a massive cliffhanger where you’re so eager to watch what’s next. But trust me this is not really a bad thing here, this show is extremely simple, it’s a standalone story about an actor trying to achieve his dreams and get his dream role. We see this guy Simon Williams fighting and giving his best to get the role of a big character in a big movie.
The show doesn’t expand the lore of the MCU at all, it’s a family show about bonds and running after your goals. There’s barely any action in this nor references to the large MCU, so if you’re expecting any cameos or this type of stuff then I recommend you to slow down! You gotta watch this as a standalone thing and enjoy it for itself. But as you might now, Simon has powers and nobody knows about it, he doesn’t want anybody to know because it can ruin his career as an actor.

What was the best thing about this show? The friendship between Simon and Trevor Slattery, known as the Mandarim. These two are the best thing about this show, you’ll fall in love with them. Their friendship, their similarities and their bonding is so lovely to follow throughout this series. It’s really worth it. Expect more Hollywood references than MCU ones though! Another thing that really makes me happy is how Daniel Destin Cretton is so talented at directing, we’re in amazing hands for Spider-Man: Brand New Day!
With its simple plot and brief episodes, Wonder Man is a charming, engaging story about friendship and pursuing your dreams. Even with barely any action and few MCU references, there’s still plenty to enjoy.
