After 8 long years, The Accountant has finally got its sequel. I only watched the first film like nearly a month ago and I admit that I did not like it, despite having some solid action sequences. It just didn’t work out for me. But thankfully, The Accountant 2 is a massive improvement from everything that the first film failed. It’s not only a total different movie but it also seemed like they changed the entire genre of the film and I loved the path they decided to follow.
“When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Affleck) to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax (Jon Bernthal), Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive — all intent on putting a stop to their search.”

While the first film is a more serious, action oriented film, The Accountant 2 is more like a buddy comedy that barely really focus on the action part but instead on the comedy and the relationship between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal’s character. It was such an amazing experience to watch these two together on screen, it got me laughing almost every single time. The jokes on it are just right on point, with some better than others, Ben Affleck is simply incredible in this film, his acting skills here are upped and he was able to deliver one of the most entertaining films of the year. I obviously cannot forget to mention also how amazing Jon Bernthal was in this, both of them will have you smiling throughout this entire film.
The entire cast does an incredible job in this film. The plot might not be anything different from what you’ve seen before, this film is mostly super generic plot-wise and the fun of it is literally at its heart and soul where you clearly see the entire cast and crew having a blast while developing this. It’s one of those cases where a simple plot is executed perfectly.

Even this being a highly enjoyable film, it definitely does not escape from having its flaws. The script is quite flat and some character felt undeveloped besides the main two. And as I mentioned, this film feels like another different genre, they try to remove a little bit of the action part of it. However, at the end of the film, they try to insert a lot of action, like it just felt forced. It felt like they needed to add action to this film just so it would be a more realistic follow up to the first film.
Even with some flaws here and there, The Accountant 2 is an extremely funny, entertaining and exciting buddy comedy where we see Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal at their best. This movie is an improvement over its antecessor in every single way possible. And I truly hope they do more films in this silly franchise.
