’My Adventures With Superman’ Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Lois And Jimmy Take The Stage

We’re back for another week of My Adventures With Superman and without even getting into any detail about what this episode contains, It’s already the best episode so far of the season, thanks to the character development we get between General Lane (Joel De La Fuente) and Lois Lane (Alice Lee), which this episode spends a lot of its time focusing on.

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Episode 4 follows Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid) as he’s invited to speak at the S.T.A.R. LABS SYMPOSIUM, with Clark (Jack Quaid) happy to tag along as support, until Lex Luthor (Max Mittelman) decides to take over the talk. Meanwhile, General Lane goes on the run with Lois chasing after him, visions of their past, clashing with their present.

This episode calms down by introducing new villains to the fray for Superman, but that doesn’t mean that he’s going to be able to take it easy in this episode either. Jimmy has been invited to talk at the S.T.A.R. Labs Symposium on the topic of Superman (considering that he is his best friend). Clark does get to tag along, and this is one of the nice moments we get during this episode. Before everything erupts into chaos, we get to see some bonding time between Clark and Jimmy. While it’s not something I’ve been vocal about, it’s nice to see how much attention Jimmy is actually getting this season alongside Clark and Lois; it truly feels like he’s part of the gang and not just a token character.

What I love about My Adventures With Superman’s interpretation of Jimmy Olsen, which is so clearly highlighted within this episode, is that he isn’t just a photographer for the Daily Planet. While that’s lovely and has been part of his character for decades, it’s nice to see a change that challenges the character as a person, and seeing that this show is putting a twist on everything with how technological it is, it only felt right to at least change one of the characters slightly to fit it, and Jimmy was the right choice.

Lex’s journey to become Superman’s arch nemesis continues in this episode as we see him crash the talk, making everyone believe that not only is Superman a threat but all aliens are, meaning that whenever Supergirl comes into the picture, she’ll have to deal with the wrath of Lex and his new supporters. Once again, this is a growth that I’m enjoying watching every episode, and I love how it calls back to Jimmy, who led Lex on this path. If you still don’t understand, then you will once you watch the episode, but do rewatch episode 1 to figure it out sooner.

As we know from the last season, this version of Lois is half Korean, and we’ve seen her express it with her clothing, but now we finally get to see that heritage get explored more. This episode also focuses on General Lane and Lois, as she tries to stop him from running away, something that he has been doing all her life. It’s an emotional story that we get to learn about Lois’s relationship with her father, and it’s the first time we get to look into her backstory and see her as a child. They get to express more of Lois’s heritage during the backstories as we get some information on her mother, the meaning of her Korean name, and hints at what happened to her.

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Episode 4 is still an action-packed episode with Lane and Lane on the run while Jimmy fights a mental battle with Lex, but the best thing about this episode is that we get to dive into Lois’s backstory and understand her relationship with General Lane, a relationship that has always seemed complicated from the first season, but now with the added backstory, it seems way less complicated than we all thought and is a story with a bittersweet conclusion.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
