‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6 – Part 1 Review: A Waste Of Time

By the title of this review you must be thinking: “Oh it’s just another Cobra Kai hater trying to be different blah blah blah.” But no, I’m a huge fan of this show, since Season 1. Cobra Kai has been one of my favorite shows on Netflix and I love almost everything about it; the characters, the story, the action sequences… But look, every great story has an ending, and milking this franchise to death is not the right way to finish this… This season can still be great, but splitting it in 3 parts is the most unnecessary thing to do, and this first part proves that.

Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate.

As I said, I’m a big Cobra Kai fan, but what they did here feels so, so unnecessary in so many ways… After having 5 season with 10 episodes, they decided to end the show with a 15-episode season, and from the first 5 episodes I can already tell that they’re milking this franchise to its last drop… The thing is that nothing really happens. You’re always waiting for the story to move but nothing happens, the first 5 episodes barely manages to introduce you to the first season’s story, and the moment things start to get interesting is when the first part ends, on Episode 5…

Don’t get me wrong, you will see some fun fight scenes here and there, but they try to add so many unnecessary subplots to the story that don’t have any consequences to the actual story, there are even moments where we be like: “literally why are they even fighting right now?” You can clearly tell that they’re just trying to add more fights because that’s what people like but the thing is; you can’t just come up with a fight scene without an actual explanation or story behind it, if people just start fighting for stupid reasons makes the show look stupid and this happened quite often in here.

It’s no surprise that this is happening, but let’s not pull the gun yet because this is just the first part of 3, there’s still time for the show to redeem themselves and deliver a fun and exciting story with better character arcs. I know this is just the first part but that’s not my complaint, the thing is that this part was barely able to introduce us to the story, so nothing really happens at all, everything you see in the trailer is all you need to know, that’s until the very last scene of the 5th episode, when things are getting really bad and we want to know what’s going to happen but November will answer all of those questions.

After enjoying all 5 seasons, I must say that Cobra Kai Season 6 – Part 1 proves that making this a 3-part season was the most unnecessary thing possible. It barely manages to introduce you to the story while delivering dumb subplots that are there just to make the season longer.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Cobra Kai Season 6 – Part 1 is NOW streaming on Netflix.
