Paul Feig Discusses ‘A Simple Favor 2’ Title, Jason Statham And Why He Chose ‘Jackpot!’ (Exclusive)

Paul Feig was able to take some time to speak with us at The Hollywood Handle about his latest film, Jackpot!

We got to talk about who Paul Feig thought would win the jackpot out of his cast, what attracted him to the film’s script, and the possible title of A Simple Favor 2.

THH: I did wanna firstly want to say that, Ghostbusters [2016] is a film that’s special to me because it helped while I was stuck in the hospital, and I got the chance to watch it in their cinema. So I want to thank you for that film personally.

Paul Feig: Oh, you made my day, Christopher. Thank you. That that means the world to me. Truly.

THH: I’ve got two fun little Jackpot questions for you that I’d like to ask first. The first one being, out of all your previous actors from your previous projects, who do you think would make it to Sundown if they won the jackpot?

Paul Feig: I gotta go [Jason] Statham. I’m sorry. You know, he’s a resourceful cat. I don’t think anybody would mess with him, so I’m banking Statham. Statham all the way.

THH: Also, out of the cast members in this film? Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu, who do you think would make it to Sundown?

Paul Feig: No slam against Nora [Awkwafina], but I think both John and and Simu have the skills. I mean, John’s got the the muscle and the brawn, but Simu is, like, great at martial arts. I mean, he really blew me away when we were shooting this movie. He is awesome at them. I think I’d bank up both of them.

THH: Honestly, they’re two great picks. It’d be interesting to watch them duke out to see who would actually win the Jackpot. Another question that I’ve got for you is what attracted you from the script to take on this film? What was it from this script that was different from any other film that you’ve directed before?

Paul Feig: Well, to me, it was the amount of comedic action I could put into this. I’m a huge Jackie Chan fan and always wanted to do a movie with that much kind of physical action but comedic action. So just reading the script, it was already top loaded with so much stuff that I got 40 pages into reading this 100 page script. I was like, I have to do this. I don’t even care how it ends. I just have to do this. It was really fun to just push to the extreme level of what I’ve done before, the amount of physical action.

THH: You are currently in Post-Production for the Untitled A Simple Favour sequel. When do you think we can expect to hear about plot details or a possible release date?

Paul Feig: I’m not sure. I know it won’t come out till next year, but the question is, is it gonna come out early in the year or the middle of the year? I’m not sure. So right around then, we’ll probably put out a trailer and all that or a teaser or something. So I would say early next year, you’ll probably get a little more details.

THH: Can we expect the sequel to be titled, “Another Simple Favour”?

Paul Feig: We’re debating that right now. It’s interesting you ask. I’ll let you know soon.

Jackpot! releases August 15 on Prime Video.
