The CinemaCon coverage doesn’t stop here at The Hollywood Handle. We attended our last panel of the day where Universal Pictures took the stage to talk about their upcoming films Nosferatu, Wicked, Super Mario Bros. Movie, Twister and so much more.
Untitled The Super Mario Bros. Movie Project

Back on March 10, also known as MAR10 Day, Chris Meledandri announced a new Super Mario Bros. Movie was in development. Chris Meledandri has now taken the stage to speak about it once again without revealing any details about it, still making it unaware if it’s a direct sequel, a standalone sequel or a spin-off. With the release date only two years away, we can expect some more news and hopefully some footage at next year’s Cinemacon.

Despicable Me 4

Despicable Me 4 is nearing, and we got a new look at CinemaCon, showcasing the heist sequence featured in the trailer where Gru, the Minions and Gru Jr break into a castle. We also got a new look at Joey King’s character and news that Sofia Vergara has joined the voice cast of Despicable Me 4 in an undisclosed role. The biggest news brought to the stage regarding Despicable Me 4 was that Pharrell Williams will be returning officially as a songwriter to write official music for the film.
Despicable Me 4 releases in theaters on July 3.
Twister

Lee Issac Chung, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos and Daisy Edgar-Jones took to the stage to talk about their upcoming film Twister. Twister director Lee Issac Chunt talked about how making this film”felt like the scariest thing I could do in my life”. He also revealed that they hired real storm chasers to go out and get footage of real tornadoes so that they could be as realistic as possible with Twister. A new clip was also shown for Twister.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

Blumehouse has taken the stage to talk about their upcoming films with Universal Pictures. With the global success of Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s no shock that a sequel is on the way. Jim Orr, Universal President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution took it upon himself to announce that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is currently in the works and set to release in Fall 2025. It is not known yet if Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will also be same day streaming/theater release like the first film.

Wolf Man

Wolf Man, a reboot of the 1941 film The Wolf Man has only just begun production but we were given a sneak peek of what’s to come. Wolf Man will follow a family stuck in a house in the middle of a forest where danger may lurk closer than some of them realise.
Wolf Man releases in theaters on January 17, 2025.
Speak No Evil

The first trailer for Speak No Evil which stars James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy and Alix West Lefler is the remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror film. Luckily for non-CinemaCon attendees, the trailer was released to the Universal Picture socials and can be viewed below.
Speak No Evil releases in theaters on September 13.
Nosferatu

The first teaser for Nosferatu was revealed to us which gave us the first look at Bill Skarsgård as the titular character, Nosferatu.
Nosferatu releases in theaters on December 25.
The Wild Robot

Dreamworks has taken the stage at the Universal Pictures panel to talk about their upcoming film, The Wild Robot. The Wild Robot follows Ron, a robot who finds herself stranded on an island by accident. A new look was shown to us for The Wild Robot. Lupita Nyong’O and Chris Sanders took the stage to talk more about the film where it was discussed that the film would take inspiration from classic Disney and Miyazaki animated films, the animation style has also been described as if “Monet painted a Miyazaki forest”. The Wild Robot was also described as a tale of “love and loss”, which is most likely where the callbacks to Miyazaki derive from.
The Wild Robot releases in theaters on September 20.
Wicked

To wrap up the Universal Pictures panel, Donna Langley, chairman of NBC Universal Studi Group alongside Jeff Goldblum took the stage to talk about the upcoming film Wicked starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Though you can imagine the amount of green in Wicked, Jeff said there was not a single use of green screen on the set of Wicked, clearly because of Cynthia’s green skin which would’ve not gone well if they had. Jon M Chu, Marc Platt and Michelle Yeoh also took to the stage where Yeoh revealed that she would be singing in Wicked and that initially she was afraid of singing but John M. Chu said “You played a rock in a movie! You can do anything!”. To end off the panel, over 5 minutes of Wicked footage was shown.
