Resident Evil has proved in its movies that it’s the kind of game that shouldn’t be adapted for cinema, because most of the time it doesn’t work, we recently had ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City’ last year and the movie was a bad attempt to restart a franchise with a movie that is also very weak, but for the first time Netflix decides to bring this franchise to a live action series, but did it work?
‘Resident Evil’ surprised me, but in a positive way! The series manages to be complete and with more time it can add details of the game that we don’t see in a movie only that makes the series even more faithful. It’s not a perfect series and it’s far from being, but it’s quite fun for those who like zombies and good entertainment, the series has two storylines, one takes place in 2022 and the other in 2036 (after the apocalypse), and both are very intriguing and you never feel like it’s boring, we see Jade and Billie, two sisters who moved into Umbrella’s organization and live there and over time discover the company’s secrets.
The series manages to convey the anguish that the characters are feeling for you, the action scenes are quite good with a lot of blood. I think the biggest problem here is maybe the CGI, but it’s understandable since it’s a streaming series, the CGI sometimes fails a lot and in some shots it’s terrible, but on the other hand it has good moments, but it’s not something that hinders the experience .
The script is well explained and doesn’t leave you full of questions that are not answered, in general the series manages to surprise with something simple, when we expected something terrible due to the experience we had with the films.
‘Resident Evil’ is better than any movie this franchise has ever had, bringing something unexpectedly interesting and intriguing that despite not being fantastic, manages to amuse the viewer.
