THH: It’s been quite a journey since season 1. How was working on this series through these 3 seasons and what were the biggest challenges when working on this final season and how does these challenges relate to the ones you had in the first season.
CHRISTIAN: I grew alongside my character for the past four or five years filming Sweet Tooth being Gus. I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown and I’ve taken from Gus and Gus has taken from me. And now that we’re finishing the series in this final season, there’s new themes that are occurring throughout the show. Darkness, intensity, more so than the past two seasons. And it’s great. It builds up the entire show to an incredible resolution. I feel like the biggest challenge, which was actually really fun, was getting to balance these new emotions and really get to portray them on screen. And I wouldn’t even consider it a challenge. I’d consider it fun. And it relates back to my season one because I was also just… really starting to get into Gus and his whole world. So I guess you could say in a similar way, it was similar to that.
NONSO: Yeah, I think for me to answer that question is… I think the challenge was to really get my head around the vulnerability of Jep’s character. I feel like he’s always… He was always able to show love to the people he loved, but I feel like to admit that he’s not as strong as you think he is. And there’s lots of points in this season where he shows that he’s not… Maybe he’s a big man, but he’s not as strong as he was before. And that was a challenge to play in, but it was really a wonderful thing. And it’s something that we all have to come to one day we’re all gonna get older and we’re gonna need somebody to help us. And for me, the whole season was a joy. Like Christian said, I don’t think it was, it’s, you know, this, this thing that we do acting is, is we get a chance to play pretend to be other people all day long. So for me, it was, it was a joy. It was a wonderful joy.
THH: I bet it was truly emotional when you guys were shooting this final season. Is there any specific behind the scenes moment that was truly remarkable for you guys.
CHRISTIAN: I mean, filming that final… Well, filming the final episode, there’s that scene where Jep’s lying against the rock and I’m telling him the story. And it was really emotional because Gus is essentially summarizing this entire story, this entire beautiful journey that they’ve been on and is telling it to Big Guy after they just… done this crazy intense thing in in the cave and can’t say too much about it but you know he’s really just it was really emotional that day to see it all come to him i guess yeah…
NONSO: I think in general, just offset like as well as on set, the playing acting what we were there to do was act and we did that and that was wonderful. But my favourite, I can’t really pick a favourite offset moment. I think just the general relationship that we all had as a cast. We really got on well with each other. When we lost the actors that we did in season two, it was genuinely heartbreaking. It was genuinely like, dude, you’re not going to be back for the third season. It literally, you weep. And I think that is honestly what a lot of people tell me about Sweet Tooth is that they genuinely feel something coming over the screen. Like, they really connect with it. Like, it’s not just, oh, that’s my favorite show. That they feel a warmth. It’s not just, like, excitement or drama or sadness it’s a warmth they get from the show. And I think that comes from the cast and, you know, they did a great job casting it and picking some great people.
