Despicable Me Franchise, Ranked

1 0

Illumination is not the biggest animated studio we have since Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks are still producing blockbusters, but something Illumination brought us was one of the best franchises for an animated movie in recent years. ‘Despicable Me’ is a amazing franchise and every time they release a new sequel, audiences seem to flock to the theaters! Read here our rank for the 5 movies this franchise has.

5. Minions

When I watched ‘Minions’ for the first time I actually had a good time with it. I laughed quite a lot in the movie and I don’t think it’s actually bad, but the movie feels like it NEEDS a good protagonist. Minions on their own can’t be protagonists. I love Minions and they make me laugh so much but they don’t work as main characters. Gru is the character we need, and Gru and Minions together are pure perfection.

4. Minions: The Rise Of Gru

‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru’ fixes everything wrong with ‘Minions’. Here we have Gru and his dream to become a super villain. The fan service this movie brings to the fans of this franchise is astounding. I loved to see all these tiny details that reminded me of the first movie. I just don’t think ‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru’ is better than the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise, and the reason is because of the characters. Agnes, Margot and Edith are so lovely and when they’re brought into a film, the movie is much more entertaining.

3. Despicable Me 3

Most people will disagree but ‘Despicable Me 3’ is very underrated in my view. The movie is so fun and different from what we’ve had before. I love this movie for so many reasons. Even though the character of Dru is annoying, I think he’ll have a good future in the upcoming sequel. I loved the exploration of the city, and the girls are amazing as always. The only character I think didn’t fit well in this movie was Lucy. She was so sidelined here and that’s what made me sad. She had huge potential after the second film, and here she felt very different. Oh, and the Minions sequence at the prison was SPECTACULAR.

2. Despicable Me

Where everything started, the beginning of everything. Gru going from a villain to a hero, Gru becoming a father, Minions being Minions, and one of the best villains this franchise has ever had, ‘Despicable Me’ is a classic. This movie is simply amazing.

1. Despicable Me 2

‘Despicable Me 2’ is the perfect sequel. The character development this movie has is incredible. Gru is becoming even more of a good person, and now, a father, and we can see that he loves doing it. This franchise only works well when all of the characters have their times to shine, and the villain of this movie is fantastic. The purple minions are somewhat terrifying as well. It’s a movie full of plot twists, intrigue, and as always in this franchise, those scenes that make you cry from laughter.
