‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is the sequel to the prequel that takes place right when the minions start working for Gru, but Gru is younger here and has a dream of becoming THE BEST VILLAIN OF ALL TIME, so he opens a vacancy in a group of villains called Vicious 6 where gru is a big fan and applies himself to try to win the spot, but something happens during the selection process and Gru ends up being kidnapped, so the minions get together to try to save their MINI BOSS.

The movie has a very simple plot but it works in many ways because you are not going to see a more adult movie like some PIXAR movies, you can clearly see the difference when the movie is more for a child or when the movie is for an older audience, etc! ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ has a lot of those silly jokes that probably only kids would laugh at, but it’s not a bad thing, it’s just a basic thing. It’s really cool to see characters that were only supporting characters being the main characters again, for a second movie! I personally think that the first Minions didn’t need a sequel but this movie made me think differently with the story it proposes! Gru is a character you get excited about as you follow him through the story, you really want him to become the GREATEST VILLAIN OF ALL TIME and the minions can steal the show in any take they appear the movie villains are cool and everything but doesn’t have as much screen time as the minions and even Gru himself. The setting of the film is something beautiful and colorful and gives you the feeling of the 70s-80s both with the wonderful soundtrack and with the style of costumes of the characters!

The direction of the film is also not something that will impress you, just something simple and basic. I really like the way the writers managed to make a sequel movie much more interesting than the first movie was! ‘Minions 2’ also has a lot of references to something that we will see later in the ‘Despicable Me’ movies, something common to happen in a prequel but that really makes you create more affection for the film.

Minions 2 is a movie 90% dedicated to kids, with some jokes that only kids would laugh at, but unfortunately or luckily that’s my kind of humor! There’s something in the movie that bothers me that they probably only put it to a reasonable length, like a scene where the minions are learning to fight KUNG-FU but what was that really good for? These are things that took about 10 minutes in the movie but it just doesn’t take you ANYWHERE. But taking all these aspects aside, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is a film with a simple proposal that delivers what it sets out to do! I particularly fell in love and it captivated me a lot, and you probably will too!
