Babylon is the newest film from director Damien Chazelle, known for his work at Whiplash, First Man, and the great La La Land… he shines and does an extraordinary job again in Babylon. Babylon follows the end of the 1920s, Hollywood is going through a period of great change, with the transition from silent films to talkies. A major industry star full of blockbusters, Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) rises through the ranks, successfully transitioning from one film model to the next. However, not all actors are as lucky, bringing technological innovation, difficulty for some. Babylon has an electrifying cast that moves you from beginning to end of the film such as Jack Conrad played by Brad Pitt, Nellie LaRoy played by the wonderful Margot Robbie and the incredible Manuel Torres played by the fantastic Diego Calva, each character with a different core but similar to the Same time. Jack Conrad is the king of silent cinema, the most famous star of the 1920s, making one hit after another, Manuel Torres is nothing more than a simple and poor ordinary man but who dreams of working on a movie set and being part of something bigger. , Nellie LaRoy is a woman who becomes famous when she becomes a substitute for an actress who was not on the set at that time from a scene she filmed Nellie LaRoy becomes the star of the moment simply dominating everything in Hollywood.

The film goes through several different moments/decades which makes you wonder how complicated the old film era was from 1920-1930 and so on, but while some actors benefit from this change of formula in cinema moving from Silent Films to Cinema with a voice others not so much as in the case of Jack that becomes a joke not only by film producers and directors, but with the public as well. Babylon‘s score is triumphant and superb like Chazelle’s other projects we already know well how he works with music and we know that in addition to being a score and complementing the film, it also complements the story as a whole, the main genre obviously is o Jazz, most of the music scenes are done by the phenomenal Jovan Adepo who plays the character named Sidney Palmer, all scenes involving music in the film are spectacular and with a total of zero defects with exquisite choreography with surprising touches of joy while watching . The cinematography of the film is very graceful to look at, something that gives you pleasure to watch, a pleasant and ancient atmosphere with a very beautiful and dazzling yellowish tone, with each frame of the film that passes one and more divine to watch than the other , the film raises the quality with each passing minute. The quality and performance of the film is so far above the norm that it has the feeling that you are in old Hollywood together with the characters. Babylon is a chaotic movie but on the positive side, a movie that no matter how many characters it has in it, it manages to develop and conclude that character’s story with 10-15 minutes of screen which takes place here with the character played by Tobey Maguire whose calling James McKay a psychopathic man who has weird fetishes/ideas with movies and other things like watching a man eat a live mouse, Tobey Maguire is maddening in this role and is completely stunning.

The chemistry between the couple Nellie LaRoy and Manuel Torres works very well but I think that all this thanks to the incredible performance of Diego Calva and the exceptional Margot Robbie, Margot manages to steal the scene at all times, certainly the best character in the film and when if together with Diego Calva the film becomes the true spectacle. Brad Pitt is another super interesting character for the film’s plot, we follow the character of Jack Conrad who is the main star of silent cinema but when they renew the formula and change to talking movies it doesn’t favor him much, making him become a joke on the recording sets and even by the public. I must also praise Damien Chazelle’s more than perfect direction, which is not only something splendid and also something impressive like we had already seen in other films by the director, but something that you feel affection was super involved in that work while watching, Chazelle and a one of my favorite directors and still is after this film. Finally Babylon was a film that I was completely in love with and dazzled by the final result, a masterpiece, a movie that makes you feel in the most magical place in the world, and now I know what that means.
