Werewolf By Night Review: A Scary And Smart New Addition To The MCU

It has been a very complicated year for Marvel Studios, we started with Moon Knight which at least was great and maybe my favorite project of the year, and then we got Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness that is not terrible but it’s a massive disappointment, Ms. Marvel that many people loved and many people didn’t, and I’m part of the people who didn’t, Thor: Love And Thunder that… I don’t think I had to say anything (I enjoyed the movie actually), and finally She-Hulk: Attorney At Law which so far is such a boring show that started well but is just going down the hill.

Werewolf By Night is a VERY smart project, Marvel is a huge brand with so many characters and making movies to introduce those characters won’t be the best choice, but making a special is the PERFECT way to introduce a new character to the universe, they could introduce us many characters without ruining something or taking to long to introduce a single character, this special proves that you don’t need to have a solo movie to be a main character in the MCU.

I absolutely loved Werewolf By Night and for so many reasons, starting with the plot, which is so solid and complete that you don’t have to worry with nothing more than what’s happening at that moment, it doesn’t have any connection to another MCU project, and that’s what makes it even more unique, I loved the way that they combined the MCU formula with a total new different formula. And wow, I never thought Marvel would be able to do something as bloody as this is, this is very gory and I got surprised it was not Rated R, arms, heads, throats and many more being stabbed with much blood on screen, that is something I enjoyed, because that probably means we are getting such gore at future projects like Blade and Daredevil: Born Again.

And about the characters: they are all perfect and I can’t wait to see them back to the MCU in future projects, starting with my favorite, Elsa Bloodstone, which has a very fancy vibe and it’s the type of character I love, she is so determined and a very badass character. Man-Thing is cute and I hope to see more of him in the future, he has actually had a enough screen time in this special, which we could have a good look at him. Jack Russel is such an interesting character, but I feel we need more exploration on him and that this special was not enough, but is understandable since this is more kind of a introduction of those characters to this universe.

The score is SO GOOD, congratulations to Michael Giacchino and I appreciate how he brought all this nostalgic old horror movie vibe that this special has, the camera movements, the soundtrack, the actions, it all reminds me of an very old horror movie and that’s such a different thing to do specially for Marvel Studios. All I can say now is that I want Michael to direct Blade for sure. The special actually has many action scenes and they were pretty good, many blood in it and some good fights even tho CGI can disappoints sometimes.

Werewolf By Night is a smart and terrific new addition to the MCU, Michael Giacchino gifts us with a very gory and scary special that is totally different from what we are used to in this universe.
