Hocus Pocus 2 Review: A Faithful And Enchanting Sequel.

Almost 30 years ago, the first Hocus Pocus movie released making many people hate and became one huge box office flop, so how this could get a sequel right? A bad movie with a bad box office? Nah that’s impossible. And here we are, many years later, getting a sequel of a movie that despite the bad reception in the beginning, started to get some love of the audiences through time and now becoming one of the biggest Halloween movies Disney has ever had.

I must confess, I like the first movie, but we can’t say that’s actually good, is cliche and we don’t have such thing besides the Sanderson Sisters, but these three sisters are characters that could literally carry up the whole two movie.

Hocus Pocus 2 is not very different from the first, it is a modernized version and a little deeper than we see in its predecessor, we finally see the origin of the Sanderson Sisters and how they became such well-known witches of Salem, the film begins with this origin that takes around 10-15 minutes of the movie but it’s was definitely a fun thing to see. In the present days we see Becca, who’s doing her anniversary in that day and, as always, will celebrate doing a horror ritual in the dark florear with her friend Izzy and supposedly her other friend (Cassie), but now Cassie decided to go to the life of a popular student and kind of “forgot” about her old friends. The movie follows that teen pattern of nowadays but it is not something that does not work in the movie, Becca and Izzy are really funny characters and that will probably be more striking than the children of the first movie.

And now we need to talk about the good, and obviously, the best part of this whole thing… THE SANDERSON SISTERS, they are back and incredible as we know, it feels so good to have they back in screen, doing the same perfomance level they did in the first movie and giving us amazing musical scenes, we don’t have many new songs, I just can remember of one (The Witches Are Back) but the don’t worry about that because they sing a very known music that will make people go crazy. Billy is also back, but I think I preferred him in the first movie to be honest, his participation here feels more like something they had to do it to keep it faithful but that isn’t a bad thing, it’s also very good to see Billy back on screen.

A common question might be: “Does it feels like a bad Disney Channel movie?” and my answer to that is: it feels like a good Disney Channel movie. CGI is bad but understandable, the CGI it’s probably the same level of the first movie or even a bit worse if we take in count that the other movie releases almost 30 years ago, that’s probably the detail that bothered me the most.

The movie has good action scenes and VERY funny ones that will make the whole family laugh, the movie works a lot, it proved itself that the Sanderson Sisters should really return and here they are. The movie is totally a great way to start this Halloween season! What they did here was: they literally got the first movie, added some stuff and modernized it to make something that fits in the present days, and that worked, because all we wanted here was to see the sisters back and that’s what we have the most and the fun is big in it.

Hocus Pocus 2 is a gift for all of the fans to the original movie, a faithful and honoring sequel with some more modernized and even funnier. It’s great to have the “SISTAHS” back!
