When this series was announced during Disney Investors Day in 2020 I was very excited just with the reveal of the cast, seeing Selena Gomez and Steve Martin together and even more in a murder series, I didn’t know who Martin Short was at the time but today in I absolutely love this actor.  I’ve always been a fan of murder and mystery series and I think this one is one of the best I’ve ever seen without a doubt.  The first season is magnificent for me, it works in every way and this whole idea of doing a podcast on the show is wonderful and I love every second of it.

Only Murders In The Building — “Persons of Interest” – Episode 201 — Welcome home, Arconiacs! Minutes after Season 1’s finale, Charles, Oliver and Mabel are now implicated in the murder of Board President, Bunny Folger. They must choose whether to lay low or risk their safety by catching the killer themselves. As they grapple with that choice, fireworks ensue.   In this second season a lot of people may think it’s just more of the same, but it’s not that, this new season brings a greater depth in the story, an expansion, more characters that were perfect additions to the plot, I really like Cara Delevingne and I think that here she was great but could have been better, I didn’t really like her character but she acted well.  Selena Gomez as always is wonderful in her role as Mabel as well as Martin and Steve, this season we can get to know a little more about the history of Arconia, a building that didn’t seem to be but is full of mysteries, whoever saw the first season probably didn’t stop to to think how full of mysteries that building is and that’s one of the most intriguing things about this new season.

Only Murders In The Building — “Framed” – Episode 202 — A memorial for Bunny Folger provides an opportunity for our trio to question their neighbors, while they also try to get rid of a very implicating piece of evidence. One of Bunny’s relatives makes a surprising appearance and if you thought Bunny was a force, get ready… Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), Amy Schumer (as herself), Barbara (Shirley MacLaine) and Oliver (Martin Short), shown. In the first season we had a lot of focus on Mabel due to the murder victim being someone known to her, this time I think this season the focus was more on Mabel’s present and not her past but we saw more of the past of Charles and Oliver who are characters that really needed more depth and they got it!  The series can sometimes get a little messy but nothing that really gets in the way of the plot, the jokes are good and work very well as always, the plot twists here are even better and with several mysteries to stay on the edge of the seat!

It was really nice to see all those annoying neighbors again in Arconia who are really the soul of this series along with the protagonists, this series really has a very unique factor that none can compare, without a doubt one of the best mystery series ever made.  ‘Only Murders In The Building’ is really a series that deserves to have great recognition and if you like series with mystery, adventure, murder and full of plot twists I think this is essential for you.

Rating: 9/10

Premise: Following three strangers who band together to investigate a death in their Upper West Side building—and make a lo-fi podcast about it—Only Murders offered smart crime fiction that doubled as a biting ensemble comedy.
